MAMSS Scholarship Program

Empowering Medical Staff Professionals in Massachusetts

About the Program

The Massachusetts Association for Medical Staff Services (MAMSS) is committed to supporting the professional growth and development of individuals working in the medical staff services field. Our scholarship program is designed to provide financial assistance for education, certification, and training opportunities that enhance skills and advance careers within the medical staff services professional industry.  Two scholarships have been set up for a combined total of $1500 and will be awarded to a qualified member on an annual basis.  See full policy here.

The Mary Pillsbury Scholarship - $500

The scholarship was established in honor of Mary Pillsbury, the inaugural President of the Massachusetts Association of Medical Staff Services (MAMSS). As one of the organization’s founding members, Mary was instrumental in shaping its mission and guiding its early development. Her dedication to the professional growth and education of medical staff professionals inspired the creation of this scholarship, ensuring that her legacy of leadership and commitment to excellence would continue to support future generations.

The Carla Moses Scholarship - $1000

This scholarship was created in recognition of Carla Moses, a dedicated founding member of MAMSS whose vision and commitment helped shape the organization’s early success. Known for her passion for education and professional excellence, Carla played a key role in promoting the growth of medical staff services. This scholarship honors her lasting legacy and continues her mission by supporting in mentorship, education, and the advancement of medical staff services. 



               

            

            

            

               
Applicant Selection Process:


Applications are to be submitted to the MAMSS President by the determined application deadline. Measuring all completed applications and supporting documents against the criteria listed above, the Scholarship Committee will determine the recipient. The President will notify all applicants no later than June 1st or the date of the MAMSS Annual Education Conference, whichever occurs first. Announcement of the award will be made at or before the Annual Education Conference.






All applicants will be measured by the following criteria:

    • 

      Commitment toward educational growth as a medical staff professional or provider enrollment professional
      

      • 

    • 

      Commitment toward the enhancement of professionalism in the field of medical staff services or provider enrollment
      

      • 

    • 

      Enthusiasm for and support of the goals of MAMSS
      

      • 

    • 

      Future benefits to MAMSS resulting from educational assistance to the applicant
      

      • 

    • 

      Confirmation of dedication to higher aspirations and to the achievement of excellence consistent with the standards espoused by MAMSS and its Education Committee
      

      •

Eligibility Requirements:  To be eligible for a MAMSS scholarship, applicants must:




-Be an active member of MAMSS in good standing.
-Currently work in a medical staff, credentialing, or provider enrollment role.
-Not currently the President of MAMSS or a member of the MAMSS Scholarship Committee
-Applicants must not have received a MAMSS Scholarship within the previous 3 years.  An exception to this requirement will be considered only if no other eligible applications have submitted complete applications.
-Current or planned participation in a formal education program including but not limited to the annual NAMSS conference, consultant sponsored conference, or active involvement in a formal Study Group in preparation for the certification examination(s), or, current plan to obtain related study or educational materials.




               

            

            

            

               
Scholarship funds may be used to cover:


    

  • 

      

    • 

      Registration fees for MAMSS or NAMSS conferences
      

      • 

    • 

      Study materials and fees for NAMSS certification exams (CPMSM, CPCS, or CPES)
      

      • 

    • 

      Approved continuing education programs or courses related to the profession
      

      • 

    • 

      Related travel expenses
      

      •

Scholarship Expectations


Payment of scholarship amount will be provided, upon receipt by the Treasurer, of the recipient’s proof of enrollment within the program/conference, or purchase of materials. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship and who have provided proof of enrollment during the application process may be given the scholarship amount upon announcement of the award.


The amount of payment shall not exceed the cost of the program plus reasonable travel expenses. In no circumstance shall payment be greater than the maximum limit assigned to the scholarship. Proof of travel expenses may be required and the payment amount is the discretion of the Board of Directors and/or designated committee.


For budgetary purposes, all scholarship winners must utilize the funds/scholarship award within 12 months of the announcement of the award.
